Ole Miss Football: Rebels Week-Three Preview, No.1 Alabama
Week-three of the 2018 Ole Miss football season presents the Rebels their biggest test of the year with No.1 Alabama coming to Oxford.
Well Rebels its week-three, its Bama week and its Wednesday so here is the OHT week-three preview of the 2018 Ole Miss football season and the Saturday matchup against No.1 Alabama. The Ole Miss Rebels (2-0) come into the game in Oxford with a 76-41 blowout of FCS Southern Illinois while the Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0) are coming off a 57-7 win over Arkansas State. This will be the first SEC game for both teams.
Naturally Alabama is a great team which is very well-coached and has a seemingly unending supply of talented players. Nick Saban is now in his 11th season as the Tide’s head coach and has developed the Alabama program into a plug and play team each season. Saban has won five of his six national championships in that time and this 2018 Tide team could very well bring the next natty to Tinsel Town. Like every other Saban Bama team they are good.
Of course, the Tide are heavily favored against the Rebels this Saturday which really comes as no surprise to fans of other team. In fact the Tide will likely be favored in every game they play this season unless Matt Luke and the Rebels can help weaken the Tide armor this Saturday. While many fans, both Bama and Rebels, feel the Rebels will suffer a 2017 repeat against Bama the Vegas experts feel it might be a little closer this season and there are some interesting storylines for Saturdays game.
While the experts do have the Tide winning and the Rebels have the 128th ranked defense there are a few things which fall in favor of Ole Miss. As far as I know this is the first time the Rebels have entered the Alabama game with the offensive weapons Ole Miss has. QB Jordan Ta’amu is leading the SEC and 4th in the nation in passing yardage and RB Scottie Phillips is leading the SEC and 4th in the nation in rushing yardage. Then there is the NWO which has three of the SEC Top5 WRs in receiving yardage. This offense will be hard to stop.
The question for now is can a team with the No.8 offense and No.128 defense in the nation beat Bama? We will get the answer this Saturday but the closer we get to the matchup there are things which point to it being possible even though it may not be probable. For now on Wednesday we take a closer look at the 2018 edition of Alabama football and get a better idea of what the Rebels are truly up against.
