Ole Miss football was back in action Saturday and the Rebels were looking for their 6th win of the season but fell 38-24 to the Texas A&M Aggies.

Many Ole Miss football fans are disappointed after Saturdays 38-24 loss to the Aggies. Coach Matt Luke and the Rebels were looking to bounce back on the road in College Station but now today the Rebels are still looking to get to six wins. College Station is never an easy place to play and now with Jimbo Fisher at the helm the Aggies are pretty good.

Of course, this has been a pretty tough season for coach Matt Luke and the Rebels. Besides sitting at 5-5 with just two games left to play the Rebels continue to suffer injuries which have certainly hindered both sides of the ball. There been an obvious lack of improvement by the team in SEC play and we can be certain some changes are coming at season’s end.

A Quick Rundown

Against the Aggies the Rebels defense allowed 502 yards of total offense giving up 236 yards thru the air and 266 yards on the ground. In contrast the Rebels managed to only put up 440 yards of total offense with 373 yards coming thru the air and only 67 yards coming on the ground.

Once again we watched as the Rebels defense was able to make a few big plays but bled massive amounts of yardage especially in the run game. On offense we watched Jordan Ta’amu have another impressive day passing but the Rebels rushing numbers were very bad.

Not All Bad

Naturally the game didn’t turn out the way we had hoped and my first thoughts are somewhat critical of the Ole Miss coaching staff. However, after watching the game the second time there are some positives which we can take away from the loss.

First and foremost All-American wide receiver AJ Brown had a record-breaking day becoming the All-time leading receiver in Ole Miss history. Brown had 6 receptions for 127 yards which puts Brown over the 1000-yard mark and brings his season total to 1,047 yards. OHT will take a closer look at Brown’s record later in more detail.

Another Rebel who is on a record-setting pace is running-back Scottie Phillips. Phillips left the game early with an ankle injury and didn’t return. While we don’t know the details on Phillips injury we will most likely find out more from Matt Luke in his Monday press conference. Hopefully Phillips will be ok for the game this coming Saturday. In Phillips absence freshman Isaiah Woullard had 16 carries for 64 yards on the ground.
