Ole Miss Football: Grove Grinder, Seasonal Changes Are Everywhere
Ole Miss football has just one game left to find their sixth win of the season and now basketball has begun so seasonal changes can be good.
Ole Miss football fans are now facing some adversity. With just one game left in the 2018 season, and it being Miss State, some fans have sadly accepted defeat and are looking towards better things. Sure there is basketball which has kicked off under the new Kermit Davis era and Ole Miss baseball is just around the corner. However, we are related to the Ole Miss family thru the football program which is having a rough season. Seasons change.
As many of you I have been blessed to be born and raised in Mississippi. Long hot summers and cold winters divided by wonderful springs and falls are the norm here. There are long nights full of fire flies or full of frost but there are occasions between when everything is simply perfect. There are those moments which spring or fall between the extremes and give us a motivation to just keep grinding.
Multitude Of Seasons
Ole Miss Rebels
Seasons come in many different varieties and what interests some people may not interest others. From winter to spring then summer to fall signals a change and new activities for many of us. Basically we plan for vacations, family reunions and holidays which come during their respective times of years.
There are those of us who love the spring and summer and some love fall and winter. Many of us may like taking part in specific activities based on the season which we are in. I have friends who have boats who love the summer and I have friends who love going to the mountains in the spring and fall.
While many of us find differences in our seasonal activities there is a common denominator which unites us this time of year and that is Ole Miss football. Sometimes the seasons can be rough and that is certainly the case this season and with the rough season we know changes will be coming.
Seasonal Change Happens
It really doesn’t matter who you are or what your favorite seasons may be we all face change. Life can change in the blink of an eye and it does for numerous people on a daily basis. Most of the time it is not truly appreciated when it is good and expounded upon when it is bad. Over the past 50 years the Ole Miss fan base has seen its fair share of good and bad and when it was good it was great and when it was truly bad it was devastating.
Life ls so much like the seasonal changes we go thru. There are moments where there are highs and moments where there are lows. It doesn’t matter if you look towards football season, deer season or baseball season changes always happen. I love deer hunting and have hunted in a number of deer camps over the years. Each season there is somebody who has to be replaced. It is just a part of camp hunting. Some years there are many different new faces.
Ole Miss football is no different. Over the past couple of years we’ve seen some major changes in the program and regardless of the cause the outcome has effected every person in the Ole Miss family. It hasn’t been easy or ideal but then seasonal change isn’t really expected to be easy. What we do look for is fulfillment in our favorite seasons and sometimes, more than not, it doesn’t happen. There seem to be no guarantees when it comes to football or deer seasons. Just saying.
Faced With Change
When we know change is coming we have some uncertainty and its easily understandable. Over the years as Ole Miss football fans we have had to endure change regardless of the final circumstances. I dare say a single one of you might have had a ‘vote’ in the new mascot, the flag or even “From Dixie With Love’ being stricken from the University of Mississippi. We have lost a lot with some seasons of change.
While many of us can disagree about the above mentioned there is no denying the effect it has had on the Ole Miss football fan. I’ll be the first to admit I grew up in the days of a great Ole Miss football experience which existed around the mascot, flag and song and its tough to let go but over the years seasons change. Now, after all the University of Mississippi has been thru I really just want a good product on the field or court regardless of the sport.
Regardless of the outcome of the game on Thanksgiving night the 2018 Ole Miss football season will be over. Many of us will become basketball fans and then we will roll into baseball season. There will be familiar faces depart the programs and they will be replaced by new faces. Seasons change. Hotty Toddy!
