Ole Miss basketball ends their non-conference schedule this Saturday as they host Florida Gulf Coast and OHT is breaking down the Rebels record so far.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (9-2) are off to a great start and Rebel Nation is excited about our Rebels hoops this season. While some Ole Miss basketball fans have critiqued the hoops program for their lack of strong scheduling there is an obvious improvement in the team in the past year.

This Rebels hoops team is very talented and extremely fast on the offensive side of the ball while playing solid defense. There have been countless remarks from Ole Miss basketball about the noticeable differences in this team from last season. The improvement is obvious and it all begins with coach Kermit Davis.

Not A Bad Start

Given the no-win situation the Ole Miss Rebels were in just a year ago coach Kermit Davis has done a great job in his short time as men’s hoops head coach. Now with a 9-2 record the Rebels close out their non-conference schedule this coming Saturday when they host Florida Gulf Coast. The Rebels open the SEC portion of their schedule on the road in Nashville when they take on Vandy January 5th.

Right now this is a young team for the most part who is getting better the more they play together and we’ve seen them improve from their last loss. Currently the Rebels are riding a six-game win streak and have a serious level of momentum as they head towards the tough SEC portion of their schedule.

The Current Record

The Rebels currently have nine wins but in order to truly appreciate the wins on the Ole Miss basketball schedule we have to look at the Rebels two losses. The Rebels two losses have come at the hands of Butler and Cincinnati. The Rebels fell 83-76 on the road to Butler and then dropped the game 71-57 against the Bearcats in Orlando.

The Rebels have undeniably had a weaker schedule than many other top-tier programs but they still have 9 wins. The Rebels most impressive win was a 78-70 win over Baylor which also came in Orlando. Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball also have wins over San Diego, Illinois State, Chattanooga and most recently Middle Tennessee State.

While the Rebels schedule has been very conducive for a strong SEC start the Rebels have exceeded expectations on the hardwood for most Ole Miss basketball fans. They have done exactly what many Rebels fans expected which was to put a better product on the court than we witnessed last season. This is a much improved team which is very fun to watch when they are clicking on all cylinders.

So while we await our Ole Miss Rebels hoops this Saturday Rebels fans should keep in mind Rome wasn’t built in a day. Coach Kermit Davis has laid out a plan for this team and the team has been responsive to his style of coaching and his system thus far. As these Rebels continue to play together they are certain to get much better. Ole Miss basketball fans just need to give it time and trust the process.
