Wednesday was National Signing Day and turned into a huge success for coach Matt Luke and the Ole Miss football program getting several top targets.

Coach Matt Luke and Ole Miss football had a big National Signing Day Wednesday which saw several top targets ink with the Rebels. The Rebels entered Wednesday with the No.25 ranked recruiting class in the nation after signing 25 players in the early December signing period.

Wednesday the Rebels had seven spots left to fill and signed six players bringing the 2019 recruiting class total to 31 players. The additional six players were enough to raise the Rebels national ranking from No.25 to No.22 and No.9 in the SEC.

The Big Story

The big story of the day was 5-star RB Jerrion Ealy inking with Matt Luke and the Rebels over Clemson and Miss State. Ealy was a long time commit for Luke and the Rebels until just after the Under Armor All-American game in which Ealy set a new rushing record. For Matt Luke closing and signing Ealy was huge. Ealy who is expected to be an early pick in the upcoming MLB draft will also be playing baseball for the Rebels should he forego the draft.

Another exciting wrinkle was the last-minute commitment and LOI from 4-star QB John Rhys Plumlee of Oak Grove. Plumlee had been committed to Georgia and took a final official to Florida State this past weekend but committed to Ole Miss in the final days leading up to NSD. Plumlee is another dual-sport athlete and will also be playing baseball for coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels on the diamond.

Sticking on the offensive side of the ball the Rebels picked up 4-star Under Armor All-American WR Jonathan Mingo. Mingo was a longtime commitment for Luke and the Rebels and was expected to ink with the Rebels. Mingo out of Brandon, Mississippi will be a huge addition for Rich Rod and the new look NWO.

Late Merry Flipmas

Besides the last-minute flip of Plumlee there were some flips for Mike Mac and the defensive side of the ball. As expected DE Brandon Mack inked with the Rebels but there were some defensive surprises for coach Luke and the Rebels.

Top JUCO LB prospect Lakia Henry and massive DT LeDarrius Cox both inked with the Rebels and shocked the other SEC teams involved along with Big12 Texas who were chasing Henry hard this past weekend. Coach Matt Luke and the Rebels flipped both players from Arkansas and Tennessee.
