Ole Miss basketball and first year head coach Kermit Davis were back in action Saturday as they faced the Georgia Bulldogs on the road.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (16-7, 6-4) were back in action Saturday as they faced the Georgia Bulldogs (10-13, 1-9) in Athens on Saturday. The Rebels entered the matchup coming off a SEC home win over the Texas A&M Aggies and were looking to improve in the SEC win column on the road against the Bulldogs.

While the Rebels began slow against the home team they were able to overcome a 10-point deficit in the first half to take a 45-33 lead into the locker room at the break. The second half was all the same as the Rebels outscored the Bulldogs 35-31 to pick up the huge 80-64 SEC road win. Of course, we look at the game by the numbers.

By The Numbers

Ole Miss Rebels

By a team Saturday the Rebels shot .444 from the field while the Bulldogs shot only .404 from within the same range. From the 3-point line the Bulldogs shot .440 while the Rebels shot just .360 from beyond the arc on Saturday. From the charity stripe the Rebels shot .789 to the Bulldogs .688 from the free-throw line. The Rebels are the SEC’s best team from the free-throw line in the 2018-2019 college basketball season.

Defensively the Rebels created 20 turnovers in the game while only turning the ball over 10 times own their own. The Rebels managed 10 steals in the game while limiting the Bulldogs to just 5 steals. The Rebels out-rebounded the Bulldogs 38-32 with a number of those coming off  the offensive end of the court for the Rebels. While the defense was obvious for Ole Miss there was also an offensive focus for the Rebels.

Individual Rebels Numbers

Against UGA there were three Rebels who scored in double digits and sophomore Devontae Shuler who scored 8 points on his 21st birthday. HBD Devontae! In the game leading all Rebels was junior Breein Tyree who had a career high 31 points with 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.

Freshman Blake Hinson added 13 point while also getting 2 boards and 1 assist. Senior Terence Davis added 12 points while also gathering 5 rebounds. Davis also had 4 assists and 4 steals in the game against the Bulldogs.

Observations

This is an easy assumption for Ole Miss basketball fans. The Rebels ae at 16 wins with just 8 games left in the season. On a 2 game winning streak it appears the Rebels might be back on the winning track in the SEC but they have a long way to go as a team. These Rebels have a lot to learn and a short time to get there.

What we’ve seen in the past two games is great defense and positive work in the paint. Their improvements were especially prevalent in the game today and the Rebels picked up the SEC road win off creating turnovers and points off TOs. The Rebels have definitely improved their game with the past two wins,

dark. Next. The 2019 Diamond Rebels!

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball have just 8 SEC games left in the regular season and will be back in action in the midweek as they travel to Auburn. Please be sure to be watching for the OHT Ole Miss/ Auburn preview coming soon. Great win Rebels! Hotty Toddy!
