There is a lot of excitement building around the new Ole Miss football offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez and what he brings to Oxford.

To say there is a level of excitement around the Ole Miss football program right now is a true understatement. This past season the Rebels offense saw a great deal of success on the field and could see much more in 2019 under new OC Rich Rodriguez. This past season the Rebel had one of the top offenses in the SEC and the nation and Ole Miss fans expect the new offense to be even better.

One exciting aspect of the 2018 offense was production out of the backfield by junior running back Scottie Phillips who finished the season with 153 carries for 961 yards and 12 TDs. With Phillips returning for his senior season we can be sure he will once again be productive in the new Rich Rod offense.

Besides the emergence of Scottie Phillips there were other backs who made significant contributions out of the Rebels backfield. In 2018 Rebels fans saw two freshman make their Rebels debuts. Isaiah Woullard finished his freshman season with 84 carries for 460 yards and 4 TDs. Freshman RB Tylan Knight finished the 2018 season with 19 carries for 109 yards. We can expect to see more from both backs in 2019.

When we look at the rest of the roster we can see others who may see time in the Rebels backfield in 2019. Junior KeShun Wells saw limited action in 2018 and finished the season with 4 carries for 24 yards. Other Rebels to watch for are junior D’Vaughn Pennamon and freshman Jake VanRonzelen.

Incoming RB Additions

The 2019 Ole Miss recruiting class was a surprise for most Rebels fans when 5* Under Armor All-American RB Jerrion Ealy inked with the Rebels. There is no doubt Ealy will be a playmaker out of the Rebels backfield should he forego the upcoming MLB Draft.

3* RB Jarod Conner will also be a part of the Rebels backfield in 2019 as well. Conner is listed at 5’11 and 210lbs and has already enrolled so he will be available this spring. With his size he will be a major asset for Rich Rod in the run game.

Next. The 2019 Diamond Rebels!. dark

We can be sure the Ole Miss football offense under Rich Rod will be good. While we expect the NWO to be a large part there is no denying the importance of the Rebels running backs. We will be looking forward to their success this spring and this fall. Hotty Toddy!
