Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels Drop SEC Road Series To Mizzou

Coach Mike Bianco and No.25 Ole Miss baseball were back in action Sunday in game-three of the weekend series against Missouri.

After losing game-one 1-2 Friday and winning game-two 3-0 Saturday to even the series against Missouri (15-9) coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball (17-8, 3-3) were looking for the SEC road series win Sunday. The Rebels had not lost a series in 2019 heading into the Sunday game-three matchup.

In game-three the Rebels got on the board first with 2 runs in the top of the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. The Tigers answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the 3-2 lead. The Rebels responded with 1 run in the top of the third to tie the game at 3-3. Mizzou retook the lead with 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 7-3.

The Rebels cut into the Tigers lead with 1 run in the top of the fifth to make it a 7-4 game but Mizzou answered with 1 run in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 8-4. The Rebels managed to score 1 run in the top of the sixth but failed to find the plate again and Mizzou picked up the 8-5 win and the Columbia SEC series. OHT looks at the game by the numbers.

In Sundays game-three matchup there were 6 Rebels who combined for 8 hits with 2 Rebels finding multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was sophomore Tyler Keenan who went 2 for 3.

Junior Thomas Dillard went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 1 HR. Senior Chase Cockrell went 1 for 3 while senior Jacob Adams went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI. Senior Ryan Olenek and junior Cooper Johnson each went 1 for 4 at the plate.

On the mound freshman right-hander Gunnar Hoglund drew the expected Sunday start for Bianco and the Rebels. Hoglund went for 2.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits with 2 BB. Senior right-hander Connor Green entered in the third going for 0.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 1 K and 1 BB.

Junior Zack Phillips entered in the fourth going 0.0 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits. Sophomore right-hander Max Cioffi entered in the fourth and went for 2.2 innings allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit with 3 Ks and 1 BB. Junior right-hander Houston Roth finished out the game for the Rebels going 2.0 innings allowing 0 earned runs on just 1 hit with 3 Ks and 2 BB.
