Ties are never good and they are even worse when you see a very good Ole Miss softball team robbed of a series win because of a wet field.

Coach Mike Smith and No.24 Ole Miss softball (22-8, 3-2) were back in action Monday night as they faced South Carolina in game-three of their first SEC road series of the 2019 season. The Rebels entered the game-three matchup coming off a 2-0 game-two win over the Gamecocks. South Carolina picked up the 2-0 win in game-one.

In game-three the Rebels got on the board first with 2 runs behind the home run of senior  Brittany Finney and had a 2-0 run lead heading into the fifth inning. However it began to rain and the game was set in a delay. The game was later cancelled because play could not be resumed by 9pm ET. According to the SEC a game must be played thru 5 innings to be counted. With the cancellation the Rebels return from Columbia winning 1 of 2 games and split the series.

Despite the outcome of the South Carolina series the No.24 Rebels have been on a roll. Coach Mike Smith and Ole Miss softball have won 14 of their last 16 games. Those 14 wins include two wins over No.14 Arkansas, two wins over No.18 Oklahoma State and one win over No.16 South Carolina.

When you look at Ole Miss softball you can see they are very well coached and very talented. There are 7 Rebels who are hitting over .300 with senior Kylan Becker leading the team hitting .473 at the plate with 1 HR on the season.

Sophomore Jessica Puk leads the Rebels with 7 HRs while hitting .316 at the plate. Senior Brittany Finney follows with 6 HRs while hitting .235 with sophomore Abbey Latham hitting .361 with 4 HRs.

Accurate Arms

Ole Miss softball is as good in the circle as they are at the plate. JUCO transfer and left-hander Molly Jacobsen has taken on the role as the premier pitcher in the Rebels staff and has performed incredibly thus far in the 2019 season. Jacobsen (10-1) has made 15 appearances with 11 starts and has a 1.04 era. Jacobsen has pitched 74.0 innings and recorded 76 Ks over that span and also has 2 saves.

Senior right-hander Brittany Finney has also emerged as a reliable option for Mike Smith and the Rebels in the circle. Finney (6-5) has made 14 appearances with 10 starts and has pitched 66.0 innings with 61 strikeouts. Finney has a 2.23 era thus far in 2019.
