Ole Miss football fans watched as Rebels RB Scottie Phillips doled out a successful season in 2018 and 2019 is expected to be even better.

Ole Miss football fans, it is time to get excited. You can be sure football season is getting closer when the various award watchlists begin to come out prior to the season. Well, the 2019 edition of Ole Miss is getting closer and a number of players were expected to be named to specific watchlists.

Earlier this week the 2019 college football watchlist madness began with Maxwell. On Monday the Maxwell Award release their high priority watchlist and a Ole Miss player was included. Senior Rebels running back Scottie Phillips was noticed by Maxwell and it is predicted he will have a great season in 2019.

Out of Jones County Junior College, senior Ole Miss running back Scottie Phillips was outstanding in 2018. Phillips, in only 11 games, had 115 carries for 928 yards and 12 TDs. Phillips also had 2 receptions which totaled 110 yards and 2 TDs. Phillips missed the last game of 2018 due to injury.

Now, in 2019 it is expected and anticipated by many Ole Miss football fans Phillips will shine in the new Rich Rodriguez spread system in which RBs can rack up huge statistics. Phillips was a willing and very able RB in last years Longo system and the Rich Rod system will place even more focus on the running game. This will bode well for Scottie Phillips.

The Maxwell Award goes to the college football player of the year selected by a panel of sportscasters, sportswriters and coaches. The 2019 Maxwell Award watchlist currently consists of 80 players from throughout the NCAA but will be shortened as the season progresses.

Phillips will have some serious competition in 2019. Among the 80 players there are other SEC running backs on the watchlist. Clyde Edwards-Helaire of LSU, Najee Harris of Alabama, Kylin Hill of Miss State, Ke’Shawn Vaughn of Vanderbilt, Lamical Perine of Florida and D’Andre Swift of Georgia.

OHT wants to congratulate Scottie Phillips on his addition to the 2019 Maxwell Award watchlist and we look forward to seeing him in action this fall. There will be more watchlists coming out as we get closer to kickoff of the 2019 season. Please, be sure check back here for more Ole Miss Rebels news and updates. Hotty Toddy!
