Ole Miss Football: Rebels ready to faceoff against Gamecocks
Coach Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss football will be back in action Saturday night as they face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Oxford.
Saturday night coach Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss football will be back in action. The Ole Miss Rebels (2-4) will face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-4) in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Ole Miss enters the game coming off a 54-21 road win over Vandy while South Carolina is coming off a 48-3 home loss to Texas A&M.
The Rebels have one of the top offenses in the SEC and will look to showcase more of quarterback Matt Corral and the wide receiver corps led by Elijah Moore and Dontario Drummond. The Rebels also have a ground attack with Snoop Connor and Jerrion Ealy. But what about South Carolina. OHT takes a closer look at the Gamecocks and the Saturday night matchup.

In the 2020 college football season records can be very deceiving. While both teams sport 2-4 records they do also have some questions that they are trying to find answers to. Coach Will Muschamp has long been known for his gritty and stingy defenses but in 2020 the Gamecocks have been up and down on that side of the ball.
Thru six games this season the Gamecocks have allowed an average of 33 points per game while also allowing 423.8 yards of total offense per game. So far in the 2020 season, the Gamecocks have given up 26 touchdowns. They have however managed to force 9 turnovers with 6 being interceptions as well as 10 sacks and 25 tackles for loss.
Offensively the Gamecocks have also been up and down. They are averaging 24.83 points and 340.5 yards per game. Muschamp’s gameplan is about a balanced attack but the majority of their yards come from the passing game.
Graduate transfer quarterback Colin Hill has taken over the role as starter for offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. In his six starts, he has completed 108 of 184 attempts for 1,197 yards with 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
Hill has some really good receivers with the best being Shi Smith who has 43 receptions for 479 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Gamecocks also have a weapon in the backfield. Kevin Harris has 106 carries for 595 yards and 8 scores and is averaging 95.67 yards rushing per game.
Expect A Close Game
Ole Miss and South Carolina don’t really have a storied history with both teams only meeting sixteen times throughout both program’s history. However, what they do have is a tiebreaker in the making, and fans of both teams may expect a close game.
According to GamecocksOnline.com,
"“Thirteen of the last 14 meetings between the two teams have been decided by seven points or less, including six decided by a field goal or less. The Gamecocks have won eight of the 16 games in the series, but never by more than seven points.”"
