Ole Miss have an opportunity this weekend to beat the best. Georgia, the reigning College Football Champions, are looking to make their own history. It’s arguably the biggest match-up of the weekend.

The 2023 College Football season has been epic for Ole Miss Football. However, it can get even better this weekend, with a win over the current College Football Champions Georgia.

The Rebels are still alive in the race for the SEC West. However, Ole Miss needs big favours from 2 of the last 3 teams on Alabama’s schedule, while winning out themselves. The first hurdle for them, is this weekend against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Even if Ole Miss can’t replace Alabama at the top of the SEC West after 12 games, they still can move up the CFP Rankings. The opportunity to make the playoffs is still an achievable goal. That opportunity presents itself Saturday, by beating the Georgia Bulldogs.

Beating the current number 2 ranked team in the CFP Rankings would be huge, it puts the ball in the court of the committee and depending on other results, could see the Rebels sit just outside the top 4.

Ole Miss have had the opportunity for a special achievement the previous two seasons. However, both hit brick walls. This season, it’s a tougher task than previous, but victory will come with greater rewards.

On the other side of the field Saturday, a team looking to continue writing it’s legacy. As mentioned, Georgia are the current College Football Champions. They destroyed TCU in the final back in January, to make it back-to-back championships for the Bulldogs.

That in itself was impressive from Kirby Smart’s team. However, this time round it can become iconic. Only two other teams have won three undisputed college championships in a row, the last was Minnesota way back from 1934 to 1936, the other being Yale.

No team has come close to that feat, with recent back-to-back winners Nebraska (1994 & 1995) and Alabama (2012 & 2013) both failing to make the championship game the following season.

Georgia have pushed back anybody that has tried to stop them achieving that, sitting at 9-0 this season. Yes, they have had to deal with adversity in games, but champions find a way.

Ole Miss are trying to be the exception, with a win on Saturday in Athens. They are a long way from the legacy Georgia are creating. However, all legacies created have a starting point, an opportunity. The Rebels point, may just be this weekend.
