Oxford is still seething from the sense of being wronged after Cotie McMahon was handcuffed with five fouls vs. Minnesota. The horrible officiating felt like a joke, one that the Rebel Nation very passionately torched across social media platforms.
But the next update from Minnesota was salt to the wound. Amaya Battle, the very player who baited McMahon into that final whistle, was caught smirking at the fallout, saying it was a trick that "worked out."
While Coach Yo was trying her best to remain civil in addressing the obvious problem, Battle was laughing at the question on the foul.
Amaya Battle's shocking statement
"I'm just going to try and fall and see what happens. It worked out," Battle said laughing in the post-game conference.
The confession was a blunt-force insult to the roster that deserved a fairer fight.
McMahon's didn't play any different than she has for the rest of the season. But the physicality that has led her to have 33 games with double digit scores this season suddenly became a hot streak of fouls.
Just 41 seconds into the final quarter, McMahon picked up her fourth foul and left the floor. She came back in with 5:44 to play but just over a minute later she was called for a charge and fouled out with 4:22 on the clock, and her team up by five.
Rebels' momentum took a clear hit with McMahon's absence, as the Gophers made up their score deficit and eventually, take home the win.
This particular foul wasn't the only officating error that made the fans bubble with rage over the refs. Fans have shared clips from he game of several moments where the fall clarly looked like a foul, but was gravely overlooked.
Several fans are also calling on Coach Yo to file a grevience compliant, but for now, she has just called out the terrible officating, saying it needs to be fixed.
