The after effects of a losing season is starting to show in Ole Miss basketball's offseason.

Rebels' guard Eduardo Klafke announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on March 27. He will have to wait for it, though, as the spring portal window isn't opening till April 7.

A possible reason could be the Brazilian transfer's potential getting buried under the veteran-heavy rotation in Chris Beard's squad.

What Eduardo Klafke's announcement means for Chris Beard?

Klafke was Beard's 'reliable soldier', playing in 70 games over two seasons. However, even as a sophomore, he averaged only 14.9 minutes per game.

For a 6'5" guard with his caliber, playing under 15 minutes is a clear signal that he was viewed as a bench spark rather than a foundational piece.

Whenever he was given a chance, the guard showed he could fill the roster gap in Beard's squad.
Klafke dropped 16 points against both Texas and LSU this season while shooting 43% from deep, showing just ow much his Brazilian National Team caliber was stifled by limited touches.

Klafke joins Ouchita Baptist transfer Hobert Grayson IV as the pair of Rebels entering the transfer portal.

When asked about players potentially leaving Ole Miss after the terrible season they had, Beard's simple response was, "that's just college basketball."

“That’s a good question. Probably not in the mental space to answer that fully now,” Beard said after they lost the SEC Tournament Semifinals.

“Obviously, in college basketball, guys choose to go elsewhere; they choose to come back. Each player on our team will have that decision. It will be their decision. It will be a conversation to make sure that both sides align."

Beard knew there needed to be a major roster change this offseason if he didn't want to repeat the 2025 season; the transfer portal entries are just part of that overhaul.
