The season has been brutal on Chris Beard, but it could get way worse.
Ever since Chris Beard's losing streak at Ole Miss reached a historically low point, 10, th hot seat rumors became all the buzz in Oxford.
The midseason firing of Jerome Fang from Kansas State just made the rumors worse for Beard, linking him to the job.
There are already plenty of reasons why Beard might not get fired. But a 10-game streak means he's walking on thin ice.
Chris Beard to Kansas State?
The Ole Miss basketball coach reaffirmed his commitment to the Rebels in his recent interview with Reb Talk, while also trying to give hope to the Rebel Nation about "greater days ahead."
“I need to put a full-page ad out in the Oxford newspaper or buy some TV time,”Beard said. “This is sincere: thank you. We’ve continued to have tremendous support. … You find out who’s with you in times of adversity. You got a lot of friends when the ball is going your way. And when things kind of throw you a curveball from time to time, you really figure out who’s with you in those times. I’m super appreciative of our student body.
"My promise is there are greater days ahead. This too shall pass. We’re committed to being here at Ole Miss and building a program that’s nationally competitive.”
Beard's promise looks daunting this season, even if the Rebs have three more chances to add some wins to their depressing score board.
Beard's streak is already at an all-time low, but it could go worse.
Another loss against Auburn, whom Ole Miss is slated to play on Feb. 28, will further worsen Beard's losing streak.
Looking at their past-11 games, the Rebel Nation know better than to keep their hopes high for an Ole Miss win.
