DK Metcalf throwing fists at a Detroit Lions fan in the second quarter became the hottest topic on the internet, calling for the NFL to probe further into it.

Everyone though Metcalf got off the hook since the on-field officials missed the altercation and did not eject or flag him, the video captured by the CBS cameras, and another alternate angle was enough to get the receiver into some serious trouble.

The NFL made their decision on Monday night, as they announced a two-game suspension without pay for the physical confrontation.

This means that the former Ole Miss star will miss out on the remaining regular-season games against the Browns and the Ravens, plus incur a loss of half a million dollars in salary.

It could still get worse for DK Metcalf

CBS Sports reports that the damage could potentially go beyond him having to forfeit $550,000.

"The two-game suspension for what the NFL terms "conduct detrimental" to the league now voids at least $45 million in future guaranteed money for the Pittsburgh Steelers receiver. Metcalf would still be able to earn that money over the next two years," CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reports.

"His four-year, $132 million contract from March, reviewed by CBS Sports, notes that if he 'fails… to practice or play with the Club for any reason,' which includes 'Player's suspension by the NFL or Club for Conduct Detrimental,' his guarantees 'will be NULL AND VOID'."

This means that the damage could turn out to be career-threatening for the receiver. His suspension takes away the guarantee of his $45 million salary in 2025 and of another $25 million in 2026.

One very less likely outcome could also be the Steelers parting ways with the receiver.

As of now, Metcalf plans to appeal the decision, which will either be heard by commissioner Roger Goodell or one of his designees.
