The moment Florida announced Billy Napier's firing, all the fans could think about was Lane Kiffin as the next Gators head coach. The rumors and fans' desperation to get him have been around for about a year now, but no one truly knows what Kiffin actually thinks about it.
While he didn't spell out his interest or disinterest in the role right away, Kiffin unequivocally asserted where his focus lies entering Week 9.
The Ole Miss football head coach subtly declined to comment on the ongoing Florida rumor mill. Neither did he elaborate much about the reported contract extension that Ole Miss AD Keith Carter is brewing up.
"I don't comment on these other jobs or these ongoing things in-season. That's awesome that Keith said those things and I don't take that for granted," Kiffin said in a conference call with reporters on Oct. 19.
"I'm extremely appreciative of how everyone has been here. The chancellor (Glenn Boyce), everybody. I'm flattered that that would even be discussed halfway through the season, but I don't deal with that."

“I’d love to get something done like Indiana did with Curt Cignetti before the silly season starts. We’ll see.”

Never the one to mince his words, Kiffin explained how preparing for their upcoming Oklahoma game is his top priority for now.
"We stay in the work, stay in the moment, stay in the day," he continued. "Really that stuff has nothing to do with what we're doing."
"Obviously we've got a lot to do with another top-15 matchup. Back-to-back road games. I think it speaks, talking about some of these things, of where our program has come. Really take those things as a compliment. They are here again so we've got to stay focused and worry about this season."
Kiffin's response was exactly what it should be, steering the focus back to the game, and yet not giving out any definitive statements on the rumors.
That said, until the Rebels head coach either confirms or denies his commitment to either Ole Miss or Florida, the rumors won't rest.
