Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin's idol Steve Spurrier has a lot of faith in his QB Trinidad Chambliss.
The Rebels' QB was looking like a true Heisman contender early on in the season.
However, following two bad games, an almost-upset vs. Washington State, and a loss against Georgia, Chambliss all but vanished from the Top 5 Heisman Trophy contenders list.
Instead, Indiana's Fernendo Mendoza and Alabama's Ty Simpson became the two top names for Heisman entering Week 10.
Steve Spurrier feels Trinidad Chambliss could bring the Heisman home
Despite Week 10 Top 5 Heisman rankings saying something else, Florida legend Steve Spurrier felt Kiffin's QB still stands strong in the Heisman race, and could very well bring home the coveted trophy.
“The guy at Ole Miss… Chambliss, Trinidad Chambliss. Trinidad may win the Heisman. Who knows?” Steve Spurrier said on Another Dooley Noted Podcast.
Spurrier isn't the only head coach praising Chambliss for his accolades. The Rebels' head coach Kiffin has also always been vocal about how well Chambliss has been performing.
"I thought he was great. I thought he was the example of what the team did, where it was, here it goes, the same thing. And he makes some really good throws, you know, like he makes the corner route throw and they’re kind of at the same time where he started to where he missed a corner route last week at Georgia. Different coverage, but, you know. And then we trust him, we trust our player," Kiffin said about Chambliss following their win over Oklahoma.
Chambliss holds up well when comparing him to other QBs statistically too. In eight games, he has completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,864 yards and 9 touchdowns and just a single interception. That includes an SEC-leading 14.6 yards per completion.
On the ground, Chambliss has 376 rushing yards for 5 touchdowns.
If the Rebels QB can continue producing numbers like these in their remaining four games, there is no doubt he will have a strong case for their Heisman.
