It's barely Aprill, but Oxford is already buzzing with preseason hype that other programs will take a few more months.
The reason, Trinidad Chambliss is back and it is all the assurance Ole Miss fans need to expect another College Football Playoff run deep enough to be in National Title contention.
Unfortunatley, the way-too-early hype is hardly a pale imitation of the electric reality running through Golding's squad.
A "criminally underrated" Ole Miss
Sensing the world of disconnect, analyst Gren McElroy pointed out why a "criminally underrated" Ole Miss needs limelight in the national title conversation.
"Ole Miss is being criminally underrated in the national conversation right now," McElroy said.
There's no reason for the Rebels to not have National Title hype right now. They have their No. 1 QB of the season in Chambliss, and eqaully massive running back who never fails to take it to the house. AN offensive lineup that is promising to be a better version of what they were last season, and a defense that could rip apart the SEC under Pete Golding.
Golding's staff overhaul could be the reason for the muted hype, but the spring buzz coming out of the Manning Center tells a different story.
“This is exciting, right? It’s a very exciting time for Ole Miss football,” McElroy added.
"Trinidad Chambliss got a chip on his shoulder. Kewan Lacy is probably the best running back in the SEC. To find out you’re eligible on the same day that you walk out on the practice field for the first time? If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what it is."
And that's not even touching upon the Heisman buzz Chambliss is surrounded by.
"You've got some solid synergy on the defensive side with Pete Golding's retention... I think a lot of people are kind of sleeping on the Rebels even though they had a tremendous year last year."
There's still time for them to wake up, because Golding managed to lead the Rebels to a semifinal appearance last season in a condition that most programs would fall apart in front of the nation, which they lost by one failed Hail Mary.
Underestimating his CFP potential this season with a squad of his choice sounds like the perfect recipe for a massive blindside.
