Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris leads the nation with 987 receiving yards on the season, but he is in jeopardy of missing the Rebel’s Week 9 showdown with Oklahoma in Oxford today at noon. At 5-2, Ole Miss’s College Football Playoff hopes are on the line each week with a third loss almost certainly knocking them out of contention for an at-large bid into the 12-team postseason.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart entered the season as a Heisman Trophy dark horse and has played well in his senior season, completing 70.2% of his passes for 2,384 yards with 14 touchdowns to just three interceptions. However, the Rebels dynamic passing offense would be stunted without Dart’s No. 1 option on the field. Behind Harris, sophomore Cayden Lee is second on the roster with just 27 grabs for 429 yards.
The Sooners have struggled to score this season and have a quarterback controversy between former five-star Jackson Arnold and true freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. but through it all, head coach Brent Venables has kept a steady defense on the field that could give the Rebels issues on Saturday afternoon in Oxford. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon ET at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and Harris’s status will be up in the air until then.
Tre Harris injury update
Senior wide receiver Tre Harris is a game-time decision in Week 9. He was listed on the mid-week SEC Availability report coming out of Ole Miss’s bye week following a seven-catch 102-yard performance in a Week 7 loss to LSU in Baton Rouge. He will reportedly warm-up and attempt to play.
UPDATE: Thamel is reporting that Harris will be OUT for today's game.
Harris has yet to miss time this season and only has two games with less than 100 yards receiving. If he is limited or cannot go against the Sooners, he will be a massive loss for Lane Kiffin's offense and quarterback Jaxson Dart.
