Ole Miss football might not have one of its best players in a game wth the highest-stakes they have played so far.
Quarterbacks coach Joe Judge updated RB Kewan Lacy's injury on Sunday, entering the Sugar Bowl week.
Joe Judge updates on Kewan Lacy injury
"He was out there with us today," Judge said. "At this point in the season, no one's 100%. I'll let the head coach (Pete Golding) handle the injury updates."
What Judge didn't say was Lacy would be playing in the Georgia rematch. That is not good news for Ole Miss.
The fact alone makes the rematch more concerning for the Rebels. Lacy was practically the only person on the Rebs' offense who was churning out yardage while the rest of the offense was hitting the wall in the fourth quarter against Georgia.
And it wasn't just against Georgia. Time and again, Lacy has carried the load, providing the only forward progress for a Rebels offense that otherwise would have died in the water, like against Washington State.
Lacy's injury came during their previous rematch against Tulane, where the RB took a hard hit in the second quarter and exited the game, alongside Trinidad Chambliss. Both Chambliss and Lacy returned to the field after halftime, but Lacy's shoulder injury led him back to the tent in the third quarter.
Golding is yet to release a statement on the severity of Lacy's injury, leaving the Ole Miss fans to jump to the worst case scenarios.
Trinidad Chambliss added, "I think Kewan will have a great game this game."
Not to forget that Lacy is one of the top threats for Georgia entering the Sugar Bowl.
The Bulldogs could have it that much easier against the Rebs, but seeing how Lacy has been the entirety of the season, he would definitely be making a return for the quarterfinals if his recovery allows.
