Johntay Cook has alreayd travelled much in his collegiate career. Thatr's why in his first press conference as a Rebel, he made it clear he's here to win.
That shouldn't be too tough for him, though, given that he’s already in lockstep with Chambliss as his signal-caller before they’ve even shared the field for a real Saturday.
Johntay Cook speaks highly of Trinidad Chambliss
"Best quarterback in the country," Cook said of Chambliss on Tuesday. "Most of the time all I got to do is catch the ball. Just be in my spot and just catch the ball and it's really that easy."Â
And that's from a wideout who's caught snaps from not just one but two different QBs at Texas and then at Syracuse.
Chambliss' cannon of an arm was part reason behind the Rebels' CFP semifinal-level success in 2025. And Cook's update of spring practice with Chambliss just suggested they will not be slowing down anytime soon in 2026, not until they get that National Championship or an appearance.
In fact, Chambliss was one of the primary reasons why Cook choose Rebels over plenty of other options he had.
“Just the opportunity. (QB) Trinidad (Chambliss), obviously, and I just felt like the time was right, you know. Right place, right fit," Cook said of his commitment to Golding's squad.
So far, the wide receiver room is starting to look as menacing as the QB position. Cook mentioned how the existing locker room has welcomed all fresh faces effortlessly, starting off on the right foot to form a bond necessary ton win games.
"It was kind of like love at first sight, if that makes sense. Like we all just jelled so easy and accepted each other for who we were, and there are so many different personalities that it’s kind of a beautiful thing, and like you just got so many bullets in a clip that it’s like we are just loaded," Cook said of the wide receiver room at Ole Miss.
The updates so far, plus Golding's spring plan successfully transitioning into their game week mode is making every Ole Miss fan more and more thrilled for the season-opener in Nashville to come.
