Lane Kiffin hasn't made a decision yet as the rumors around the Ole Miss head coach continue to swirl and the regular season flies toward its conclusion.
As fans of the Rebels, the Florida Gators, the LSU Tigers, and college football as a whole wait on pins and needles to learn what Kiffin will do next, the head coach shared a highly intriguing perspective on the decisions he has made.
“Over the years of the changes I’ve made, I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on things that have happened,” Kiffin said. “I really feel like, with age, they all happened exactly how they were supposed to happen and when they were supposed to happen. I just didn’t think it at the time. I thought they were disasters. They’re just all part of a story.
Lane Kiffin's coaching moves since 2007
For further context, since 2007, Kiffin has held seven different positions in the world of college football, including one job with the NFL's Oakland Raiders and on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama. The other five jobs? Well, unlike most other people in CFB, they were all head coaching roles.
- Head coach of Oakland Raiders, 2007-08
- Head coach of Tennessee Volunteers, 2009
- Head coach of USC Trojans, 2010-13
- Offensive coordinator and QB coach at Alabama, 2014-16
- Head coach of Florida Atlantic Owls, 2017-19
- Head coach of Ole Miss Rebels, 2020-present
While his future at Ole Miss may be uncertain (and according to Wikipedia, is already over), Kiffin's moves over the last decade or so have been far from consistent, and his answer about them all being "part of a story" is laughable at best.
"I realized that was God’s plan for him to impact all those people and have all those relationships," Kiffin said. "So I think all the stuff that happened, happened how it was supposed to happen.”
Kiffin repeatedly leaves teams at the drop of a hat when he thinks a better option presents itself. Rebels fans just have to pray that he doesn't think the jobs at LSU or Florida look better than his current role in Oxford.
