Since the LSU loss, Ole Miss knew the assignment and won the final five games. Oklahoma and Arkansas were conquered, but the big one was earlier against Georgia. The Rebels continued to play like losing was not an option, dominating the Bulldogs 28-10 in Oxford.
Fans were treated to a squirrel's return on the field, which could be a lucky charm for Ole Miss in the Vaught. This performance was more than just a look; it was one of the best performances in Ole Miss history.
Ole Miss's defense keeps showing an elite mentality
The Rebels' defense is one of the best in the nation, if not the best. Ole Miss recorded five sacks, forced four fumbles, recovered two, deflected five passes, and intercepted an interception. The defensive front was in the backfield more than they were not. It was a dominance from start to finish.
We allowed just ten points to a Georgia team that averaged 31 points per game. Seven of those came in the first five minutes on a short field after a Jaxson Dart interception. No one player stood out; everybody stepped up.
The offense keeps improving each week and still has areas to improve. Star wide receiver Tre Harris was out again, but Jordan Watkins, Cayden Lee, and Antwane Wells all stepped up, with 'Juice' grabbing his first touchdown since Week 4.
The win could have been even more one-sided if Ole Miss had improved when entering the red zone. The Rebels had five red zone visits, scoring two touchdowns. On the final visit, Ole Miss was happy not to find the end zone, looking to run down the clock.
Ulysses Bentley scored the first touchdown, answering back after the Georgia touchdown drive. It was piloted by backup quarterback Austin Simmons after Dart left the game with a foot injury. After witnessing that drive, the future at quarterback for Ole Miss looks in safe hands.
Dart returned from the locker room with a heavily taped ankle and entered the game like the gamer he was. Still struggling, Dart played exceptionally well and even used his legs to make plays despite the injury.
The win was Lane Kiffins's first over a top-5 ranked AP Poll team in his five seasons at Oxford. After ten consecutive losses, they are also 2-1 in their last three games against the Bulldogs. This is a famous win for the program that keeps their playoff hopes on track.
