The CFP committee released their third edition of College Football Playoff rankings, and Miami at No. 13 was a major point of contention, to put it mildly.
The Hurricanes' fanbase was a group bubbling with rage as the committee, once again, ranked Notre Dame ahead of them after they badly defeated the Fighting Irish earlier in the season.
The Hurricanes got a No. 11 rank in the Top 12-team bracket. Following the bracket, Miami faces Ole Miss at Oxford in the first round matchup.
But that is with two weeks still remaining. Besides them just winning their remaining games, Miami will need a lot of factors working out in their favor to actually play Ole Miss, or another team, in the first round.
"First and foremost, Miami needs to continue to win the football games they have in front of them, and then things will happen," CFP Committee's new chair Hunter Yurachek said when asked about the Miami-Notre Dame head-to-head conflict.
"As we set up the pools to do our selection process, Miami and Notre Dame have not been grouped in the same pools to have that direct head-to-head comparison, where you would really use that metric to separate one team from the next," Yurachek continued.
CFP chair Hunter Yurachek says that Notre Dame and Miami have not been compared to each other because they are not close enough to each other in the rankings. Mentions Miami has two losses to unranked teams & Notre Dame has two losses to teams in committee's top 13.

Miami faces Virginia Tech next, so a win against them is a must. Meanwhile, their next opponents, Pittsburgh, have a major score of making their resume prettier as they face Georgia Tech next.
If the Panthers come out winning against the Yellow Jackets and Miami gets a win over them in the following week, it will most definitely give them the push they need to be in the top 10.
More importantly, both these victories need to be dominant, statement wins if their goal is to jump Notre Dame.
And then there's the most obvious one of winning the ACC Championship down the road.
We'll see whether Miami gets to play Ole Miss, or any other team, in the College Football Playoff.
