Ole Miss witnessed a historic and equal parts nostalgic reunion on Tuesday, not in Oxford, but in Philadelphia. The pillars of Matt Luke's legendary 'Nasty Wide Outs' (N.W.O.) room from 2018 are set to be the cornerstone of the Eagles' WR room in 2026.
Philly signed ex-Ole Miss wide receiver Elijah Moore amid rumors of a potential blockbuster trade for the Rebels' receiver A.J. Brown. Their friendship since 2018 has made headlines, and for that particular reason, stories about that connection being a reason Moore landed the one-year contract with the Eagles were starting to circulate.
Adam Schefter shuts down Ole Miss narrative
NFL Insider Adam Schefter was quick to put the seductive narrative to sleep, calling a spade a spade.
“I’ve seen it floated out there, obviously [A.J. Brown and Elijah Moore] are very close, they have a great relationship. I don’t believe that’s why they signed Elijah Moore. Although it doesn't hurt, I think they signed Elijah Moore, because when you look at their roster you can’t have a surplus of undrafted free agents to fill out your roster. You just can’t do that," Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic.
"You need people that have played in the league who are experienced and provide some depth in event that you need it, and I think that singing is no more than that. Because it’s a wide receiver we can come up with all our theories and float them out there. I just think it’s the fact that their filling out their roster with experienced people who have proven to play at the NFL level. Period."
Schefter may have put the fire out for now, but the entire narrative automatically collapses like a house of cards if the Eagles' rumored blockbuster with the Patriots falls through.
For now, Moore might be the reason Brown stays with the Eagles after weeks of pent-up frustration for being treated like a salary cap casualty in a pre-dated divorce-like situation.
The trade still seems like it's lurking just around the corner, but Ole Miss fans would still hope to see the wideout duo creating wreckage like the good ole days.
