After all the transfer portal tragedy, Ole Miss football finally got an optimistic transfer portal update on Saturday.

Starting WR Cayden Lee's announcement of entering the transfer portal was another gut-punch Golding's squad suffered in the great roster bleed following the term sheet leak.

Cayden Lee's next big announcement

However, there was a breather waiting for them after that.

Soon after his announcement to leave Oxford, Lee made another announcement about potentially returning to the Rebels' squad on one condition.

Lee's announcement turned out to be a package deal for Ole Miss, as the WR was reported to only return if QB Trinidad Chambliss were to return for another year.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported, "The expectation is he’s going to withdraw from the portal and stay at Ole Miss if Trinidad Chambliss gets his waiver to be able to play next year, sources tell CBS Sports."

"Entered the portal to give himself options for if the waiver isn’t granted," Zenitz added, shedding light on Lee's situation.

A lot of established players have left Golding's roster, which has crushed the confidence there was surrounding the Rebels' roster in 2026.

While the stars are understandably keeping one foot in the portal, it’s a siren-blaring alarm for the 2026 Rebels.

With things going down like this, a lot depends on how Trinidad Chambliss's verdict turns out.

The QB has decided to fight it through to get another year of eligibility, dragging the NCAA to court. His attorneys are confident in him emerging the winner on the other side.

Chambliss getting another year would mean Ole Miss returning with the elite combo of him and Lacy in 2026, enough to lure any player back to the squad.

The only thing remaining to see is whether it will just be Lee or the other players who entered the transfer portal as well.
