No. 4 Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss has been on a roll ever since Austin Simmons stepped down from the starting QB role due to his injury.
Not only did he lead the Rebels to a win each time he had the keys to the offense, but in the three games that he started, his performance and numbers sent waves through the college football world.
Chambliss' scores were consistently top-tier as he finished with 300+ passing yards and 50+ rushing yards consistently in three games, becoming the only QB following Jaxson Dart in 2024 to do so in the SEC in the past 30 years.
Now, Chambliss has another feat to boast: a Top-3 QB ranking.
ESPN's Bill Connelly ranked Chambliss as the No. 3 QB in Week 6, following USC's Jayden Mavia and Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia.
"Austin Simmons started the season pretty well as Ole Miss' starter, but when he injured his ankle, Chambliss stepped in and Wally Pipped him. He's creating more explosive plays with far fewer negative plays and more of a run threat," Connelly writes.
"Last December, he torched Valdosta State to lead Ferris State to the Division II national title. This December, he might lead Ole Miss onto the field for its first SEC championship game."
Will Lane Kiffin name QB Trinidad Chambliss his starting QB?
The only question that now remains is whether all of this would be enough for Coach Lane Kiffin to name the Ferris State transfer their starting QB.
Heading into the 2025 season, Kiffin had immense confidence in Simmons' QB abilities. In the same vein, Simmons has stayed committed to Ole Miss for years, knowing that Dart will remain the starter until he leaves for the NFL. Plus, he becomes eligible to enter the 2026 NFL Draft following this season.
On the other hand, Chambliss also becomes eligible to enter the 2026 NFL Draft. Not to mention, his elite QB talent will come in handy when facing opponents like Georgia and Oklahoma.
Kiffin has plenty of reasons to mull over his decision between Simmons and Chambliss. Good for him, he has about two weeks to weigh the pros and cons as the Rebels relax and restrategize in their first bye week this season.
Ole Miss hosts Washington State at Vaught-Hemingway on Oct. 11.
