The primary feeling driving Ole Miss as they finish up their final preparations for the Sugar Bowl is the simple feeling of revenge.
The Rebels are in New Orleans with one goal in mind: to settle the records with Georgia after they beat them 43-35 in the regular season.
The odds might not be too promising for the Rebels, but there is a pattern that will give them the confidence boost before stepping into the Superdome tommorow evening.
CFP rematch pattern
ESPN pointed out a pattern of how the teams that have lost previously generally have the upper hand when it comes to College Football Playoff rematches.
"The good news for Ole Miss, however, is that revenge has proved to be a compelling factor in the short history of playoff rematches. In three of the four total playoff rematches, the team that lost the earlier matchup came out on top," ESPN's JJ Post wrote.
Alabama's 34-24 stunner against Oklahoma in the first round came after OU pulled a regular season upset over the Crimson Tide.
Then of course, was Georgia's massive revenge win over Alabama, after they became the only team that the Bulldogs fell short against in the regular season.
Another Georgia vs. Alabama Playoff game from 2021 is more proof of the loser kicking out the winner from bracket in Playoff.
Ole Miss also boasts on such rematch win over Tulane. Will Georgia be the next rematch win they add to this list?
"Is this the start of a trend that will hold true for the rest of the playoff's existence? Or merely an aberration resulting from having only a few examples? The Rebels will look to add another data point suggesting the former on Thursday."
New Year's will be the day we find out whether Ole Miss can continue or break the streak.
