Ole Miss is one of several teams in communication with former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II
Ole Miss heads into another must-win game on Saturday against the No. 3 ranked team in the country. Despite the importance of the game, Lane Kiffin and his staff still have time to contact a player on the transfer portal.
Johntay Cook II will officially enter the transfer portal at the end of the month after leaving the Texas program. Ole Miss is one of several top teams showing interest in the sophomore.
Former five-star wide receiver drawing plenty of interest
Johntay Cook was part of the 2023 recruiting class and rated a five-star prospect. He was ranked the No. 3 wide receiver by the On3 Industry Rankings, so he committed to Texas over several top schools.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian said it was a 'mutual' decision around the departure. Cook can now talk to other programs but only transfer after December 9. It's a strange move from Texas, as if they face an injury crisis at the position, and Cook will not be there to help.
Ole Miss, Oregon, Georgia, and Texas A&M have contacted the wide receiver, and it would be a great move if Lane Kiffin could secure his services.
The Rebels are set to lose several wide receivers after this season, all of whom are burning their final year of eligibility. With plenty of inexperience on the roster, Kiffin will use the transfer portal to gain some experience.
We will see if Cook is one of the players Ole Miss brings in, but they will face competition from other top programs.
