Alabama football may be highly trending to land Tupelo OT Antonio Berry, but Ole Miss might have a secret edge that'll make them pull the rug out from under the Crimson Tide before they even know it.

The Crimson Tide are reportedly pushing to lock Berry in this week, but Ole Miss is also silently building an irresistable case for Berry.

Recruiting insider Zach Berry believes Ole Miss has a "slight edge" in the recruiting battle for an obvious reason. Ole Miss's connections in state for high school prospects are the strongest, and they have formed a bond with Berry that'll be a tad too tough for any school to match.

"I would give a slight edge to Ole Miss, but it's pretty close," Berry said on On3's Ben Garrett's Talk of Champions podcast.

"He said that he's familiar with Ole Miss, he's been there the whole time, and the most important thing to me that stood out to me in the interview was that he talks to the entire staff. And that's been a theme since Pete has taken over. I've talked to several staffers, I've talked to analysts, I've talked to assistants and they've all kinda said the same thing. With Ole Miss ... it's more of a collaborative effort. They bring these guys in and they get to meet everybody."

Golding had recruiting connections as his main priority when hiring his new Ole Miss staff. He has intentionally hired people with stronger recruiting connections, and it's working out largely in their favor in situations like these. Frank Wilson and other Mississippi native head coaches have a connection with high school to bring them to Ole Miss.

"I think Ole Miss wins out here in the end. I think the presence that Ole Miss has had in the Tuepelo high school's last couple of classes is important here. I don't know about five-star status but he has a real chance to push and get into that upper team here among the offensive linemen of this class."

Golding has been on a roll lately with recruiting, and locking in Berry will just fortify his class further.
