Zxavian Harris was the biggest question mark coming out of the draft week. Teams freezing out a 6'7", 320-pound monster DL didn't make sense.
It took a little while for the Rebel Nation to connect the dots behind it all. It might be Harris's off-field ghosts still haunting him, or his recent injury, but Golding believes that all those reasons are temporary.
Pete Golding confident about Zxavian Harris's future
Instead, the Ole Miss HC cast his vote of confidence in the DL's "extremely bright future" in front of the media Monday.
"I think, on Zay, I don’t think it’s how you start, I think it’s how you finish. I think a lot of that could be looking at the body type and all those type of things and the projection and all those. But, Zay loves football. He’s a he’s tough. He’s competitive. He’s got a really good skill set," Golding said about Harris.
Harris was perhaps the most interesting and promising prospect out of Ole Miss following De'Zhaun Stribling. His physical profile was the main draw for NFL teams, who saw a massive ceiling they could tap into within their interior defensive line.
"So he’s going to find the right spot. I think that’s the benefit of free agency. What scheme is it, and what’s the right fit. And there’s some versatility up front because I think he’s a very versatile player. And then continue to develop his body, continue to get in better shape and all those things. But I think Big Zay has a very bright future. Hopefully, he’ll get in a room with a vet and see it done the right way on a day-to-day basis. And I think he’s got an extremely bright future," Golding added.
In a league desperate for alignment-versatile giants, Harris’s ability to disrupt run schemes makes him a high-value target for any interior defensive line.
Which team relises its first to get the DL out of the freeze the NFL has unofficially put him in will decide where he ends up, or if he does this year at all.
