2024 Ole Miss basketball commit John Bol sacrificed a lot to be where he is today
A four-star commit, John Bol has the chance to be one of the most impactful players Ole Miss has recruited. As a Rebel fan, you can't help but want the best for Bol, who has an infectious personality that shines through when he speaks.
Speaking to Ole Miss football defensive end Jared Ivey on his YouTube show, the Ivey League, Bol shared his sacrifices in coming to the US to pursue basketball.
""Coming here was a little bit challenging. I came here when I was sixteen years old. I had to leave my family. I had to venture into a space that I had no idea about. I had no idea what the United States was like. I had no friends or family, but I wanted to play basketball so bad.""

Bol said he misses his family daily but needed to risk leaving Kenya, the country he grew up in, to realize his dreams.
247Sports ranked Bol the No.2 center from the 2024 class. Bol didn't take up basketball until around five years ago, three of them here in the US. How quickly he has picked up the game and how highly scouts consider him speaks volumes of his determination to make it as a pro.
He is set to embark on his first season in college basketball, and Bol can not wait to get started.
"“I can’t wait for this team, man, We’re really good right now; we look really good. We’re creating a bond. I can’t wait to play my first game. I’m just excited. I have some games circled. Couple of them. I can’t wait to play in The Pavilion with all the fans. "

John Bol liked watching one NBA star in particular
When asked what players he loved watching in the NBA, one player stands out for John Bol: Kevin Garnett was that dude. Despite saying he tries to pick a little bit from different players to strengthen his game, Garnett is the guy he sees a style of play he would love to emulate.
Like Bol in 2024, Garnett was a McDonald All-American in 1995 during his final season in high school, playing in his home state of South Carolina.
Bol said he loved how Kevin Garnett played, with his energy and his mentality to be the guy. He also noted that Garnett is the guy he wants to modify his game around. Hopefully, Ole Miss fans will get to see that unfold on the court in Oxford starting this season.
