Ole Miss may have lost one of the best running backs from the 2025 class when Akylin Dear decommitted from the Rebels on June 29. Could Lane Kiffin already be swooping in on his replacement?

Three-star prospect Shekai Mills-Knight released his Top 8, with Ole Miss leading the way in his recruitment. They will have to hold off Ohio State, Auburn, and Tennessee, which are teams looking for a commitment from the Chattanooga native.

Mills-Knight is a three-star prospect and the No. 37 running back per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked the No. 14 player out of Tennessee. The Baylor High School running back stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 210 pounds, but he doesn't move like somebody that size.

2025 running back commit has chance to see the field straight away

With the situation at running back for Ole Miss after the 2024 season, a 2025 running back commit could feature early for the Rebels. The now-decommitted Akylin Dear was seen as the team's future running back. Now, there is an opportunity for a new 2025 commit to take that role.

The Rebels have brought in four running backs via the transfer portal to compete alongside Ulysses Bentley IV. Just two of those players, Rashad Amos and Domonique Thomas, have more than one year of eligibility remaining. If he is good enough, this would allow a true freshman to carve out a role in 2025.

We saw that with the now departed Quinshon Judkins, with the former three-star prospect making an instant impact in his true freshman season. Will 2025 running backs considering Ole Miss, such as Shekai Mills-Knight, think the same?
