Daniel Jeremiah Releases Top 150 NFL Draft Prospects With Ole Miss Player Making the Cut
The NFL analysts are dropping their draft big boards, with NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah the latest to release his. One Ole Miss Player made his list, and it was the player most would expect.
One Ole Miss Football Player made Daniel Jeremiah's latest top 150 draft prospects. Yes, it was who everybody expected. Defensive end Cedric Johnson was ranked No. 113 in his rankings released on April 22.
Johnson was ranked ahead of Texas defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat and five spots behind the nearest edge, Kansas's Austin Booker.
As the Draft process unfolded over the past few months, the trajectory of Ole Miss edge rusher Cedric Johnson has been the subject of much speculation. Initially projected anywhere from round 3 to round 7, Johnson has now solidified his position as an early day three selection, a development Jeremiah's rankings have potentially confirmed.
Fellow NFL Network analyst Lance Zierlein had Johnson projected as a round 4-5 pick, writing the following in his Draft profile on NFL.com.
"Johnson passes the eyeball test with flying colors, and there will be teams who gravitate toward his NFL body type and play strength. With that said, his tape fails to consistently hit the mark. He's strong at the point of attack and will set firm edges but needs to become more intent on ridding himself of blockers and making more plays. As a rusher, he has strong hands and some tools to work with, but he needs to develop go-to moves and counters and attack the pocket with greater urgency. Johnson has upside but might never be more than a solid edge backup if his rush doesn't improve."
While competing at the Senior Bowl from January 29 to February 3, Johnson showed off his traits, especially in the defensive end drills leading up to the game. Scouts saw a high ceiling at the next level despite being a raw prospect.
Ole Miss fans will likely need to tune in on Saturday to see which team selects Cedric Johnson.
