Josh Pate asks, "Is just making the playoffs in 2024 enough for Ole Miss?"

With the 2024 College Football Playoffs expanding to 12 teams, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin looks to be going all in with his roster construction. However, would just making the playoffs be enough for the Rebels?

With the 12-team playoff expansion finally here for this coming season, the thought on everybody's mind is that Ole Miss is all in to make the top 12 this season. It's hard to argue, with the talent Lane Kiffin has brought in this off-season; they are in the top 5 of most media post-spring rankings.

With the high expectations of being a top 5 team in May, would just making the playoffs be enough for Ole Miss fans? It's a question Josh Pate of Late Kick Live asked on his latest episode.

It's hard to say what we can expect from this Ole Miss roster without a regular season game being played. It's one of the best we have seen on paper, something Lane Kiffin agrees with. If it performs to its maximum, the floor is a playoff team. That would suggest that just making the 2024 playoffs would not be good enough.

Ole Miss could have a big chance of making it to the SEC Championship game and the playoffs. The goal for this Rebels team will be to make the SEC Championship game and a College Football Playoff Semi-final; the roster can achieve that if everything falls right.

If Kiffin's team fails to make the SEC Championship game and is one-and-done in the playoffs, it will likely be a disappointment for Ole Miss fans. That's if, again, everything falls right.

The post-spring rankings make it look like anything, but a deep playoff run would be a failure for the Rebels in 2024. However, as fans, we must wait to see what the season brings. When we are in mid-October, we will likely be able to answer the question with more authority than in May.
