Shockwaves have rippled through college football with reports around the future of Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Is it the end of an era for the GOAT?

A few hours ago, reports surfaced that Nick Saban would be stepping down as the head coach of Alabama after 17 seasons with the team. If the reports are correct, Nick Saban will finish his reign with a 199-16 record with the Crimson Tide.

Nick Saban, 72, winner of six championships in his time at Alabama, missed out on another this season. His Bama side fell short in the Rose Bowl, losing in the playoff semi-final to eventual champions Michigan.

The vacant Alabama job will bring tons of rumours, with the job being one of the most prestigious in college football. Names such as Dan Lanning, Kalen DeBoer and Mike Norvell, among others, have been mentioned as early candidates.

However, Ole Miss fans need to prepare themselves for rumours that Lane Kiffin could be a candidate. Kiffin worked under Nick Saban as the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator from 2015-2016.

Kiffin has been mentioned as a potential predecessor when Nick Saban stepped away from Alabama. However, the Ole Miss head coach is building something special in Oxford while signing an extension a few weeks ago.

Rumours will surface but it feels like Kiffin is happy in Oxford with his family. In a press conference after his contract extension, Kiffin said "This is where we want to be".

College football will never be the same as we potentially say goodbye to head coach Nick Saban. However, it will likely not be the last time we see him on our screens in the future.
