Ole Miss is set to face Arkansas in Week 10 of the 2024 college football season, but will head coach Sam Pittman still be there? Coming into the season, he was the second favorite to lose his job first, behind Florida's Billy Napier. A bad Week 2 results has not helped his cause.

Leading 21-7 at the half, Oklahoma State scored 20 unanswered points to take a 28-21 lead. The Razorbacks took the game to overtime but fell to the Cowboys 39-31. The manner of the loss probably hurt Pittman most, with Arkansas in cruise control in the first half. They limited the current Doak Walker Award winner to under 50 rushing yards. The Razorbacks offense had nearly 300 more offensive yards than their opponents. However, mistakes and indiscipline helped in the downward spiral of defeat.

Where does this leave Sam Pittman?

Despite being a popular head coach, Sam Pittman had one of the hottest seats in college football. Losing by one score on the road to Oklahoma State wouldn't be a major issue for Pittman. However, the manner of the defeat was the problem, with the Razorbacks throwing away what would have been an impressive win.

Rumors were that when offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino was hired, he was ready to take the baton if Pittman could not turn things around after a 4-8 season in 2023. Petrino was the previous head coach of the Razorbacks from 2008-2011. He guided the Hogs to their best finish in the SEC, finishing 11-3, ending the year ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll.

Pitman still has time for now, but these next three games will determine how much time he has. UAB is at home, Auburn is on the road, and then Arkansas is at AT7T Stadium to face Texas A&M. If Arkansas goes 1-2, the pressure is really on with Tennessee, LSU, and Mississippi State coming before Ole Miss.

For now, Pittman is still fighting, but don't be surprised to see Bobby Petrino coaching the Razorbacks when they face Ole Miss in Week 10.
