Ole Miss Football: Greg McElroy - 0% chance for Lane Kiffin to land the Alabama job
Since the news broke that Nick Saban would not be back as the Alabama head coach in 2024, rumours have started on who could be the next head coach. One ESPN analyst believes two names have a "Zero-percent chance" of being the next Bama head coach.
The Nick Saban retirement news surprised the college football world on Wednesday evening. As soon as the announcement broke that Saban would not be back as head coach of Alabama, the potential candidate lists were released on social media for the job. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was on some, with his odds being very big compared to many other candidates on the list.

McElroy also spoke about other names mentioned with the Crimson Tide head coach job. He said Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is at a 1% chance while being much lower on Oregon head coach Dan Lanning than other media personnel. McElroy was correct with the Lanning point, as later in the day, Lanning released a video to confirm he was staying in Eugene.
It's still anybody's guess who will be the next Alabama head coach as we slowly creep up to 48 hours after the news broke. Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne spoke about aiming for a replacement within 72 hours of Nick Saban announcing his retirement.
It does seem Greg McElroy may be correct, with any talk of Lane Kiffin's name mentioned to the Alabama job being minimal. It's music to the ears of some Ole Miss fans, who were still unsure if Kiffin would be back for the 2024 season.
