Ole Miss football needs to protect their commits while looking to flip other players
Over the last few weeks, we have seen several crystal ball predictions from 247Sports regarding Ole Miss flipping committed players. The biggest one is quarterback Deuce Knight, who is committed to Notre Dame, with those rumours cooling down a little.
Being in on flipping highly ranked commits is a great way to show where the program is at and what it is selling to future college players. However, head coach Lane Kiffin can not take his eye off the recruits who have already committed to the Rebels.
Kiffin has made waves in 2024, assembling the early stages of a quality 2025 recruiting class. Ole Miss is ranked in the top 20 via On3s team recruiting rankings. Two players who have helped them achieve the high rank are running back Akylin Dear and wide receiver Jerome Myles, both four-star recruits per On3.
Both Dear and Myles had official visits to other programs this past weekend. Akylin Dear was in Tuscaloosa visiting the Crimson Tide, while Jerome Myles was visiting his home state team, the Utah Utes.
It's common for players to visit other schools while still committed to another. However, Ole Miss must ensure they are in their ear after each visit, letting them know they are an integral part of the program's future.
Quarterback Deuce Knight flip rumors dying down
As mentioned, Ole Miss is working hard to flip quarterback and Notre Dame commit Deuce Knight. On May 28, David Johnson of 247Sports crystal-balled the four-star Mississippi product to flip his commitment.
Knight recently posted numerous videos and pictures showing him looking to help the Fighting Irish recruit future talent to South Bend. Another post saw a created image with him standing in a Notre Dame uniform with "the best in Mississippi chose Notre Dame" written underneath.
We are still over six months away from the early signing period in December for the 2025 recruiting class. There is still time for Deuce Knight to change his decision; as of now, he is happy to be committed to Notre Dame.
