Ole Miss Football defensive coordinator Pete Golding is heading into season two with the program. However, the new players have spoken highly of "Portal Pete" as a coordinator.

During Ole Miss spring practice, several players have spoken to the media. Two of the 2024 transfer class had positive things to say about OC Pete Golding.

On March 28, Arkansas transfer Chris "Pooh" Paul Jr. spoke highly of Golding in his spring practice press conference.

"Honestly, I really can't put my finger on it. There's something about coach Golding, he's a special Guy, a special guy, just somebody you want to be coached by," Paul said. " he puts effort into giving your best every day, putting your best foot forward."

Paul Jr. mentioned Golding as a key part of his decision to commit to Ole Miss. He wasn't the only portal acquisition to say the same. Defensive end Princely Umanmielen also spoke about the chance to be coached by Golding being a reason to commit to the Rebels.

Ole Miss Players From Last Season Know the Pete Golding Effect

John Saunders Jr., who played under Golding during the 11-game win season last year, knows what Golding brings to the team. He also spoke during his March 28 spring practice presser.

"He's really amazing," Saunders said. "He knows all 11 positions on defense, so it's amazing to just be around him. He can coach me, and then a second later, he can be coaching a D-tackle. He's so versatile. He coaches my technique a lot, so he really helps me to become a better player."

Ole Miss are looking to make the new 12-team playoff in 2024. With Golding and the new defensive faces, the Rebels' defense could be a big part of making that happen.
