Two wide receiver commits in two days as Jordan Smart is now an Ole Miss Rebel
Ole Miss has received two commitments from the transfer portal in two days, both at wide receiver. After Lane Kiffin and the staff flipped the commitment of Ohio receiver Izaiah Hartrup yesterday, they landed another today. Former North Texas WR Jordan Smart announced he was committing to the Rebels.
Smart, who entered the transfer portal on April 17, joins a stacked wide receiver room in Oxford, looking to help guide the program to a special season in 2024.
The Texas native spent two seasons with the Mean Green, making 40 receptions for 561 yards and two touchdowns. Smart played two seasons at the NCAA Division II level with Texas-Permian Basin. In 11 games, Smart had 45 receptions for 587 yards and eight touchdowns.
It will be interesting to see how Lane Kiffin uses Jordan Smart with so many wide receivers on the roster. He will be a good backup if injuries occur during the season. However, is there a role such as kick returner as to why Kiffin has convinced him to commit? He has experience as a kick returner in high school and a little at North Texas.
We will see the plan as Ole Miss heads into fall camp with so many wide receivers on the roster. It does mean that there is plenty of competition to push each player to their max.
