There is still a chance that Austin Simmons may start for the Ole Miss Rebels this Saturday.
The QB, who has been tending to his right ankle injury he sustained in Week 2, is not listed on the availability report released on Tuesday.
Backup QB Trinidad Chambliss was highly rumored to be the starting QB against the Tigers, but Lane Kiffin was quick to shut down the rumor and asserted that nothing is decided yet. In fact, Kiffin was surprised at the news.
"That's news to me that I've announced who's playing Quarterback against LSU. I will go down and tell our staff right now," he said humorously on The Pat McAfee Show.
"No, we haven't made that decision yet," Kiffin continued. "I do think we have a good team, and we've done some good things and both those quarterbacks are really really good players. So, it's exciting to have them both."
In all, until the announcement, either Simmons or Chambliss could be the starter.
What Kiffin has revealed, however, is that Simmons' health will be his No.1 priority when making the decision.
"We'll have to evaluate (Simmons') health and then make a decision."
Kiffin also updated who has been better among the two QBs, but they're neck and neck.
“Both guys did great today," Kiffin said during Wednesday’s SEC Teleconference. Really letting them compete it out. …I always take everything into consideration. So we’ll see as we get closer.
