Ole Miss avoided a courtroom slugfest, got heartbroken by their in-state rivals, and suffered some serious roster losses this week; so you can call it eventful.
The Rebels' week was nothing less than a roller-coaster, with a series of losses, literal in baseball and offseason ones in basketball dampened the mood, but the major Trinidad Chambliss update boosted it right up.
Court denies NCAA's appeal in Trinidad Chambliss case
After months of courtroom fights just to play football for four full years, Chambliss finally got the green light he deserved from Day 1. The NCAA showed they were ready to hear that Chambliss deserves a fourth year another time with their filing of an appeal to the State Court's verdict in QB's favor, and they got exactly that.
The Mississippi Supreme Court released a ruling Friday denying NCAA's appeal. It won't stop the Chambliss case from continuing, but it's unlikely to be concluded before the end of next season, which means he's expected to play for the Rebels.
This was the only major good news that made the Rebels week sweeter.
Diamond Dawgs crush Ole Miss Rebels
The Bulldogs taking down Ole Miss was perhaps the upset the Rebel Nation wasn't ready for. Mississippi State secured an early two-win lead, and has left Ole Miss fighting to avoid a sweep in the Sunday finale.
The Rebels (19-9) are now on a three-game losing streak while its hated rival MSU (23-4) is riding a seven game win streak. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
Chris Beard losses key player to transfer portal
It would be easy to call the transfer portal entry from the Ole Miss men's basketball squad the aftermath of a 4-14 season, but the real reason was imbalanced roster rotation.
Brazilian National Team transfer Eduardo Klafke announced his decision to enter the transfer portal once the spring transfer window opens on April 7. Klafke played in 70 games over two seasons but averaged only 14.9 minutes per game. The minutes showed that a National Team-level talent spent time on the bench that could have helped Beard's squad in their crisis-like season.
Klafke joins Ouchita Baptist transfer Hobert Grayson IV in waiting for transfer portal to open to say goodbye to Ole Miss.
