College football is once again sleeping on Ole Miss football QB Trinidad Chambliss's Heisman potential — just the same as last year.

The QB finished at No. 8 in the Heisman voting last year, but the lion’s share of the reason he was left out in the cold was the Lane Kiffin coaching drama stealing all the spotlight.

In other words, a lack of exposure didn't get Chambliss the Heisman hype he should have had in 2025 when he finished one of the most iconic runs in the season.

And that is particularly why the underestimation surrounding Chambliss's Heisman potential trickling into the 2026 season doesn't make sense.

Only two college football writers from The Athletic's 28 believed in the chance of Chambliss winning the Heisman Trophy in 2026.

The highest votes went to Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith.

Why Chambliss has a better chance at Heisman in 2026?

Chambliss might have a real shot at the Heisman this season, given things work out the way he wants.

Currently, the mightiest obstacle he has to tackle would be getting his additional year of eligibility through Mississippi court's verdict.

Since there is "growing optimism" surrounding the verdict turning out to be in his favor, the next thing Chambliss will need to worry about is adjusting to the new staff, and OC John Baker's play-calling style.

Other than that, Chambliss won't have to worry about much as long as he keeps playing to the standard he set in 2025, maybe a notch above that.

And as for his new head coach stealing his Heisman spotlight, Pete Golding's coaching style so far has made it clear that it won't be happening again this year.

All Chambliss now has to do is wait for Feb. 12 with his fingers crossed.
