Kirby Smart's response to Lane Kiffin's daring take on his weight was the perfect match for Kiffin's wit. People expected the Georgia Bulldogs head coach to laugh it off, but this time Smart came prepared.
Lane Kiffin knew exactly what he was doing when he took a bold shot at Kirby Smart's weight during his press conference on Monday. "I walked by the TV and saw his [Smart's] press conference today, and it doesn't look like he's burned too many calories," he said.
It might be a way of Kiffin playing mind games against Smart, but more than that, it was building towards the perfect pre-game drama the fans wanted.
Smart's answer to Kiffin's pointy remarks gave back everything he aimed at him.
"I think he's worried about my figure. You know, I told him that's my wife's job, not his," Smart said on Friday on The Patt McAfee Show.
"You know Lane is a little prima donna, and he's a little cleaner," he later added, enough to make anyone burst out laughing.
Kiffin isn't best known for his temperament, but Smart wasn't having any of it either. Especially this time, when his family saw the comments too.
"It's another weekend in the SEC and you better get ready..@Lane_Kiffin has been texting me all week..

"I'm all about self-deprecation. I'm good with it. I told him, my son got all upset when he said it, and Lane texted me and said, 'Hey, I was just cutting up.' I said, 'No, you're telling the truth'. But sometimes the truth hurts."
But Smart didn't let the heavy comment hang in the air for too long. Instead, he shifted the topic back to Kiffin, or more particularly, his particular 6:30 a.m. morning routine.
"If you're doing 6:30 a.m. hot yoga, your body's going to look better than mine," the Georgia head coach said while laughing, taking a shot at Kiffin's physique his way.
" I did try it once. I tried it a couple of times with some guys here. Luckily, I struggled, but Lane swears by it," he continued.
Hot yoga or not, Smart will know how to match Kiffin one way on Saturday: on the gridiron.
The only thing remaining to see is whether that was all that Smart had to say about Kiffin's audacious take on his body, or does the revenge still hang in the air this Saturday in the Stanford Stadium.
