Several college football awards were announced yesterday, with Colorado two-way player Travis Hunter winning two. One of the trophies he picked up was the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the season's most outstanding receiver in the FBS.

It was a controversial decision from the BA national selection committee with San Jose State wide receiver Nick Nash, who led the nation in several categories, including receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, receptions, and others, the fan's favorite to win the award.

One thing is for sure: if Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris had not missed four games and two-quarters of the season, he would have won the 2024 Biletnikoff Award, the first time a Rebel player would have done so.

Tre Harris top 20 in receiving yards despite missing a third of the season

Tre Harris failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards in 2023, and injuries prevented him from reaching the milestone. In 2024, he surpassed the four-digit mark, missing more games this year than last season.

Harris missed three games with a hip injury before returning against Florida in Week 13. He reinjured the same hip, forcing him to miss the second half and the Egg Bowl. Despite this, Harris still managed 1,030 receiving yards from 60 receptions, catching seven touchdowns.

Hunter finished with 1,152, 122 yards ahead of Harris, while Nash finished with 1,382, 312 yards ahead of Harris. Both players started 12 games in 2024, so if Harris had continued at his speed during the games he missed, he would have surpassed both.

It's more than just stats; it's being the difference maker in helping your team win games. That describes Harris perfectly in the games he has played this season. He has put Ole Miss into positions to win games and also won games on his own at times.

It is a moot point, but it's essential to know how good Tre Harris was this season, something that will be forgotten about due to him missing most of the season. Harris has declared for the NFL draft, and he should be a day 2 selection.
