Ole Miss football recruiting has made some Rebels fans find a glimmer of hope amid the backlash of the NCAA investigation and the sanctions handed down against the Ole Miss program.

The early signing period was paramount in easing some of the fear Ole Miss football fans have had over recent months. The 2018 Ole Miss recruiting class is top-heavy with some great defensive talent. However there are a few really great offensive players who signed letters of intent to play football at Ole Miss.

Of course, Ole Miss football recruiting inked 14 letters of intent this past December 20th and there will be more. For now though we want to introduce and profile the signees from the early signing period. One of those is running back Scottie Phillips.

A product of Ellisville, Mississippi and Jones County Junior College Scottie Phillips is ranked as the No.1 JUCO running back in the nation. While at Jones county JC Phillips was electric while rushing for 2,282 yards and scoring 27 TDs.

At 5’9″ and 205 lbs Phillips is a strong, fast and very agile running back. He has good vision and has a tendency to get in the open field easily. His cutting ability is amazing and has a gift for making the first defender miss.

Of course, Phillips is ready to play in the SEC  and should be on campus in Oxford this spring to learn the offense of offensive coordinator Phil Longo.

I believe Phillips knows a great running back can thrive in the Longo offense and put up big yards on a consistent basis. We certainly saw senior Jordan Wilkins do it this past season as he went over 1,000 yards rushing himself.

In Closing

Phillips will certainly find his chance to showcase his abilities as a Rebels running back should he learn the system. Of course, with Wilkins leaving it certainly creates open competition for the Rebels premier starting position.

Next: An Interesting Postseason!

OHT wants to welcome Scottie Phillips to Oxford and the Ole Miss family. Thanks for choosing Ole Miss as the destination at which to finish out your college career. Good luck to Scottie Phillips as a future Rebel. Hotty Toddy.
