Ole Miss football recruiting certainly benefited from National Signing Day when they received letters of intent from seven top high school players.

The 2018 Ole Miss football recruiting class has been phenomenal. To consider everything this football program has been thru in the past few years coach Matt Luke and his staff did a whale of a job. They took a recruiting class ranked in the 60s nationally to a top-25 class. Of course, it was an outstanding job of recruiting by Ole Miss.

Naturally, you can assume the talent level of this class must be pretty high to bump a recruiting class some 35-40 spots. Of course, this is a very talented class and it begins with some of the top defensive players in the nation. Matt Luke and the Ole Miss staff also did a great job of plucking some of Alabama’s top high school players. One in particular is JaKorey Hawkins.

JaKorey Hawkins is rated as a 3-star CB out of Montgomery, Alabama. Listed at 5’11” and 187 lbs, Hawkins is the absolute perfect size for the prototypical SEC defensive back. He also has the speed and quickness to be a game changer in the secondary. While at Robert E Lee High School he was a first team Alabama 7A All-State selection. Hawkins was also selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.

With the defensive struggle Ole Miss has had over the past few seasons it makes sense for coach Matt Luke to go hard after good defensive players like JaKorey Hawkins. With co-defensive coordinator Jason Jones and secondary coach Charles Clark Hawkins is a player which could make an immediate impact in the Rebels secondary. Of course, like the rest of the 2018 class you can watch his highlights and see for yourself.

Hawkins had over 20 offers from D1 schools which included Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina, LSU, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Penn State. However, Hawkins had been solid on Ole Miss since last season. Of course, it also didn’t hurt to have teammate Kevontae’ Ruggs sign with the Rebels as well. The Rebels picked up  really good players in both Hawkins and Ruggs.

Closing Out The 2018 Class

Well, OHT has introduced you to the 2018 Ole Miss football recruiting class and we believe it’s better than just a top-25 class. This class is filled with players just like JaKorey Hawkins thanks to head coach Matt Luke and his staff. The job they have done is really incredible. Of course, there is still more work to do. Right now they are focusing in on a 2019 Ole Miss football recruiting class.

Next: Looking A Little Further Ahead

OHT is like many Ole Miss football fans right now. We are excited about the future of the Ole Miss football program and the direction it is headed. Of course, we owe a lot of that success to the young men like JaKorey Hawkins and the rest of this class for choosing Ole Miss as their college destination. OHT wants to welcome JaKorey and the rest of the class to the Ole Miss family. Hotty Toddy!
