No.19 Ole Miss softball will begin league play today as they travel to College Station to take on the No.7 Texas A&M Aggies.

It’s been a rough week for Ole Miss softball (13-4). The Rebels were well in control of sweeping the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford this past weekend and then came USM. The Rebels fell in the final game of the Classic to the Golden Eagles in a 5-2 decision. Then Tuesday night the Rebels had to face Boston College in Oxford and fell to those Eagles 8-2.

Now the Rebels begin SEC play when they travel to No.7 Texas A&M. This will be the toughest test for the Rebels since they defeated then No.3 Oregon. The Rebels will have their work cut out for them in College Station with a very good Aggies team. TAMU comes into the 3 game series with a higher ranking and home-field advantage. Of course, this won’t be an easy weekend for the Rebels.

 A Look At The Weekend

More from Ole Miss Softball

Ole Miss softball is coming off a two-game losing streak and facing the No.7 team in the country. Of course, we expect to see senior Kaitlin Lee in the circle for the Rebels in game-one. Lee is the predominant pitcher in the SEC this season and certainly has the resume to back it up.

Lee was lights out in last season’s SEC Tourney and has already established herself as one of the best pitchers in the nation. She will be a key player for Ole Miss softball this weekend and moving forward into the season.

Another player who we can expect to see great things from is freshman Anna Borgen. Borgan is a shut-down pitcher just like Lee and has the arm to go deep in her start.

Then there is sophomore right-hander Morgan Bruce who so far has been electric this season. Bruce will be a key cog in the success Ole Miss softball has this weekend. With an obvious focus on pitching for Mike Smith this season we know this Ole Miss pitching staff is perfect.

Pregame Observations

Ole Miss softball will have to produce at the plate to have a decent shot at taking this series. When we look at the Ole Miss line-up there are a few duly noted observations. The Rebels have hit below the mark the past two games and we can expect some hitting in this series.

The Rebels have a number of players from  the State of Texas who will have family and friends in attendance. Of course, we can expect big games from those players in front of a home crowd. Senior Alex Schneider and freshmen Amanda Roth and Anna Borgen are all from Texas.

We can expect this Ole Miss softball team to open it up against the Aggies. So far the Rebels have been unfairly disrespected in the polls and this series give them a chance to make a hard definitive statement about what kind of team the Rebels really have.

Next: Highly Anticipated!

First pitch in the Friday night match-up between Ole Miss and Texas A&M from College Station is set for 6pm CT. The game will be televised via SEC Network+. Good luck to coach Mike Smith and the Rebels. Hotty Toddy!
